The physical work is a 35x35x35 cm cube of clear resin, in which we have embedded 125 rechargeable batteries, in 5x5 rows and five layers. Each battery is covered with blue plastic foil, and each has a short red/black wire with a small white switch at the end.
In 2019, we created a work about consumption and recycling called Light Field. For that purpose, we had 400 rechargeable batteries custom-made. A few months later, we wanted to re-use these batteries in a new work. In the process of recharging the batteries, an explosion occurred. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but we were surprised by what could happen, even though we seemed to have followed all precautions. After doing some research, we found out that it wasn't all that unusual for rechargeable batteries to explode. We thought we had found a sustainable solution for artistic expression, but instead we had created some non-recyclable waste. We decided to make a work about that.
